RIM updates all IM clients, versions 2.5 available for download

RIM has released an update to their free IM clients family, pushing them to version 2.5 and making them available for download. Windows Live Messenger for BlackBerry, Yahoo! Messenger for BlackBerry, ICQ for BlackBerry smartphones, Google Talk for BlackBerry smartphones, and AOL Instant Messenger service (AIM service) for BlackBerry are now updated and the announcement has been posted on the BlackBerry Support Forums. All of this apps are free and the new update seems to bring few changes that improve the overall performance and feature list of this apps.
Here is what this new update brings:

• Add dedicated icons to the Home Screen for one-click access to conversation boxes of specific contacts. The icon appears as the contact’s display picture or avatar.
• Add contacts and display pictures or avatars to the address book to easily instant message, email, SMS, or call right from the address book or conversation box.
• Search through saved conversations
• Add dedicated emoticon icons in the conversation box

And here are the requirements in order to run the new v2.5 of the BlackBerry IM free apps:

• BlackBerry Device Software 4.5 or later
• BlackBerry smartphone with 64MB of memory
• 1MB of available memory on the BlackBerry smartphone
• BlackBerry smartphone with an active data subscription

If you want to know how you can add and remove dedicated icons to the Home Screen when using BlackBerry IM 2.5 apps, here is a quick tip. Also note that this feature is available only on the apps BlackBerry IM 2.5 suite.

Adding a dedicated conservation icon to the BlackBerry smartphone Home Screen:

1. Sign in to the desired BlackBerry Instant Messaging 2.5 application.
2. Highlight the contact you would like to place a dedicated conversation icon on the BlackBerry Home Screen.
3. Press the "Menu" key and select the "Show in Home Screen" option.
4. A icon will now appear on the BlackBerry Home Screen showing the users current avatar photo and their current status.

Removing a dedicated conservation icon from the BlackBerry smartphone Home Screen

1. Highlight the dedicated icon for the contact that was placed on the BlackBerry Home Screen
2. Press the "Menu" key and select the "Remove from Home Screen" option.
